Summer of Noir: the Killers

I am starting the Summer of Noir. Each week I will watch at least one Film Noir movie and review it. The first review is the Killers.

The Killers is inspired by a short story by Ernest Hemingway. Burt Lancaster stars as the Swede and the movie starts with a pair of killers looking for him.

After the Swede is killed, an insurance investigator looks into his death. (The Swede made no effort to escape or avoid the killers.) He discovers the Swede’s past and his involvement in a crime.

Burt Lancanster is good as the Swede. Edmond O’Brien is good as the insurance investigator and Ava Gardner is excellent as the Femme Fatal. The supporting cast was good.

The movie is pretty good. I might watch the 1964 remake. There are flashbacks but not too many.
