Humphrey Bogart stars as unstable screenwriter Dixon Steele in this classic. He is suspected of murdering a young woman but another woman, Laurel Gray, gives him an alibi.
Dixon and Laurel become romantically involved but the police still suspect him of the murder. Also Laurel sees more of Dixon’s wild behavior and starts to fear him. She starts to wonder if he could have murdered that woman.
Bogart is really good in this movie. He makes Dixon appealing while still unstable. Gloria Grahame is excellent in this movie too. I don’t think she was ever better.
I have seen this twice and it is worth re-watching. It might not be as well known as the Maltese Falcon or the Big Sleep.
