The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag

Tami Hoag brings back her detectives Kovac and Lisska in this mystery. She splits them up and Liska is now working a cold case murder and dealing with her ex-husband. Kovac is working with a new partner.

Liska is investigating the murder of a cop from 25 years ago that others have tried to solve over the years. Kovac and his new partner are investigating a murder committed with a samurai sword, which is unusual for the twin cities.

Hoag’s books with Liska and Kovac are good. I really liked Prior Bad Acts from a few years back. Kovac could almost be described as a cliched hard-boiled cop.
