Thor the Dark World holds up on re-watching. It is as good as it was in theaters. This movie picks up sometime after Avengers with Loki in a dungeon and Thor and his allies trying to restore order to the nine realms. Then the Dark Elves strike and try to use the Aether to destroy the universe.
Chris Helmsworth is really good as Thor. Maybe he is not as good as Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Iron Man but it would hard to replace Helmsworth at this point. Tom Hiddleson is irreplaceable as Loki (he didn’t stay in the dungeon too long). Jamie Alexander could have a bit more to do as Sif but I liked the fact that the movie didn’t push a love triangle. Rene Russo had more to do as queen Frigga this time.
The only downside to the film is that the villains weren’t that interesting. If the Dark Elves are not seen again, that will be fine with me. I am not saying that Christopher Eccleston as Malekith, the leader of the dark elves, did a bad job but he wasn’t a great villain. There might be a reason why Malekith vanished for years after his role during Walter Simonson’s Thor.
