DVD Thoughts 2-19-2013

Horror Express is a 1972 horror movie with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Telly Savalas.  Lee and Cushing are scientists on a train and Lee has a mysterious fossil.  It is pretty good.  The monster is different and interesting.  Lee and Cushing are good, as always. (Savalas is a bit over the top but it works.)  The film quality is not the best at the beginning but it improves.  The movie holds up pretty well, I think this is the fourth or fifth time I’ve seen it.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle is another 1970s classic. (I guess I am on a seventies kick this weekend.) Robert Mitchum stars as Eddie Coyle, a low-level Boston criminal.  He is looking at a jail stretch for a crime and he is trying to buy his way out.  This is based on a novel by George V Higgens.

5 other classic Robert Mitchum movies

  • the Yakuza
  • Out of the Past
  • Farewell My Lovely
  • Cape Fear
  • Night of the Hunter
